Sometimes, people break that law. But if you want to have soft shading using smudge/blur tool on your vectors, work with it entirely. Means, not just on skin shades, but on other parts too; like clothes, hair or whatever. But it's totally not called vector art; maybe painting or doujinshi.

Im glad you didn't think I was being overly criticial about your vector of Mai. I also have used Illustrator CS2 and I really like the way it paints but the vectoring just seemed awkward for some reason. Maybe it is because I am so used to using paint shop pro for vectors instead of photoshop. I like using photoshop for other things, but vectoring just seems easier to do in PSP. See you around.
